The salad and salmon diet

Here is a listing of foods that you might want to use when planning your menu:

Protein:
chicken, turkey, low mercury containing fish (salmon is an excellent choice), extra lean sirloin, flank steak, and lean pork, eggs.

Dairy:
yogurt (plain). Cottage Cheese or feta cheese.

Nuts:
(nut butters included) Almonds, cashews, brazil, filberts, macadamia, pecans, pine, pistachios, walnuts.

Seeds:
(seed butters and pastes included) flax, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower, tahini.

Non and mildly starchy vegetables:
asparagus, avocado, green/wax beans, beets and beet greens, bokchoy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, chard, chicory, collard greens, crookneck squash, cucumber, dandelion, eggplant, endive, escarole, kale, kohlrabi, leek, mushrooms, mustard greens, okra, onion, parsley, parsnips, radishes, romaine lettuce, rutabaga, scallions, spinach, summer squash, swiss chard, sprouts, turnips, watercress, zucchini.

Sea vegetables:
arame, dulse, hijiki, kelp, laver, nori, wakame.

Grains:
brown rice, barley, oats, quinoa, amaranth, millet, bulghur wheat, spelt, kamut.

Oil for salads and cooking:
extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil. Flax oil (should always be used raw and provides the essential fatty acid linolenic acid).

Legumes:
adzuki, black eye peas, black turtle beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, mung beans, navy beans, peas, pinto beans, soy beans and soy bean products such as tempeh and tofu.

Carbohydrate restrictions:
Each equal one serving of complex carbohydrates: total amount allowed per patient is individualized based on lab data, and level of activity. The usual starting point is no more than one or two servings per day.

1/2 cup. cooked whole grain

Eggs:
(Quantity adjusted for each individual) Most individuals may consume up to 14 eggs per week.

Fruit:
(each equal one serving) Avoid bananas. Choose 1 serving of fruit

1 medium piece of fruit (orange, apple, pear) 1/2 grapefruit.

1 cup of fresh or frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries).

Beverages:
Water, herbal tea, and seltzer. (Try using flavored seltzers instead of soda. The brands Canada Dry and Poland Spring make great tasting seltzers such as lemon and lime, and cherry).
